183 civil unions in 3 years

Gay marriages may not have come into force until last year, but that hasn’t deterred people from celebrating their civil unions.

There were 183 civil unions celebrated in Malta between 2014 and 2017, 173 of which were between people of the same sex.

There were also 22 civil unions celebrated abroad between 2014 and 2018 which have since been registered in Malta.

The information was given in Parliamentary Questions posed by MP Byron Camilleri to Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.
